WHY MOOSEBERRY SOAP?
In today's market, we are seeing an explosion of handmade and supposedly organic products. I tell my customers read-read-read when it comes to so-called natural soaps and soap products, from lip balms to moisturizers, soap (industrial soap or skincare products) and creams to sugar scrubs or bath salts. There is no doubt that it is a very competitive market. At Mooseberry Soap Co LLC, we keep up! We take into consideration you, our customer, coupled with the needs of the economy and the environment. That's why everything we sell comes from the earth as much as possible, be it clays that detoxify and purify your skin, spicy herbs and spices that invigorate and exfoliate like crushed clove and ginger or our lavender, lavender bud and oatmeal based soaps and liquid soaps that act to soothe or calm. We take our essential oils very seriously and offer the best organics and botanicals on the market, in terms of aromatherapy. Best of all, our soaps smell and feel wonderful on your skin. We've had customers come up to us at public markets, in local salons and on the web telling us how we have cured their psoriasis with the lemongrass tea tree oil soaps or the spicy oatmeal soap, or that their skin no longer has eczema because they tried our natural Anti-wrinkle, Anti-aging Moisturizing Cream. We never make claim to cure ailments or to use our products medicinally but it sure is good to hear a satisfied customer's own words about how the soaps, scrubs and moisturizers feel on their skin.
This brings me to few words about exfoliation, one of my favorite topics. We handpick certain clays that act to detoxify and purify the skin. We take great care in knowing whether you have dry skin or oily skin, whether it is normal skin or has rough patches. In other words, we care. We take great delight in helping you achieve the satisfaction you need and want. The variety of exfoliating agents ranges from poppy seeds to sesame seeds to berries to dandelion and peppermint leaf or crushed organic spices like clove and cinnamon. I could go on and on with our list of natural herbs and spices that come straight from our gardens and those of local farmers in the beautiful finger lakes region of New York State. A favorite of ours is pure vanilla bean. It smells so great that our customers keep coming back to buy more vanilla bean products like vanilla bean sugar scrub and yummy vanilla bean natural soap.
Do we do cold processing or have glycerin-based soaps? The answer is yes to both. What this means is that we take organic oils like olive oil and coconut oil and mix them with sodium hydroxide (the only chemical we have to use because that's what makes soap) and we then add in rich organic shea butter and sometimes pure honey from the local farmers to make honey soap. We retain the natural vegetable glycerin that results from making our soap in a process called saponification. Glycerin is the part that many manufacturers remove and sell for lots of money. We keep the glycerin in because we know how smooth it makes you feel.
Why use honey?
That's because it's an awesome product on your skin and it makes a great soap. We also happen to be environmentally conscious and eco-friendly folks, caring about what goes back into our bodies and our planet. We use eco-friendly packaging and as little waste as possible and are members of green organizations in our community. People ask us if we carry goat's milk soap? We have been known to use goat's milk in the past but because we are avoiding use of animal products as much as possible (yes, we still do use honey), we have discontinued use of goat's milk. When you have good stuff like shea butter and green tea extract to add to your soap and creams, you really don't need animal by-products. Some other active natural ingredients we use are hemp oil, avocado oil and cocoa butter. We like the extracts from the mango tree and make a special cream and soap with mango and white clay. Our sugar scrubs and salt soaks use organic epsom salts and sea salts combined with our special oil blends and clays. What does tea tree oil do for a soap and you? Well, for one, it's antiviral and antibacterial. Used in the proper quantities, which our soap makers know how to do, we make sure our soaps are made in the best way possible, carefully cured and tested until ready.
Are our products vegan?
Yes. Many of our products are vegetable based. We use a natural vegetable glycerin in our lotions, soaps, creams and scrubs. In our cold process soaps, we retain the glycerin, as previously mentioned.
Do we use natural colors?
Yes, the colors we use are all natural. We do not believe in using dyes for soap making, as you will see with other soap makers, because of the harmful chemicals and toxins present in micas and dyes.
We not only carry soap, but we are paying attention to your other natural needs, as well. In an effort to stay ahead of the curve, we now have natural laundry detergent, lip balms, all-purpose brown soap and some surprises coming out soon. You may want to try our honey-beeswax-soy candles to get a feeling for the direction we are headed. And we think you will be pleased and excited with the results.
To our wholesale customers, please feel free to go to our wholesale section of the web site and fill out a form. We can provide competitive pricing for reselling, distribution, custom soaps and private labeling.
